Letter

Letter is a paper size that is used for a wide range of documents, including magazines, catalogs, letters and forms. It is also called ANSI A or American Quarto.

Dimensions

A Letter size page measures 215.9 x 279.4 millimeters or 8.50 x 11.00 inches. In PostScript, its dimensions are 612 x 792 points.

Part of the ANSI standard

Letter is part of a set or range of page sizes, called the ANSI/ASME Y14.1 standard. This US standard was established in 1995. Two ANSI A pages next to each other in a spread equals the ANSI B paper size, which is also known as Tabloid or Ledger, depending on the orientation.

Alternatives

Outside of the USA and Canada the international ISO 216 standard is used. The ISO-alternative to Letter is called A4 or DIN Aa and measures 8.27 x 11.69″ or 210 × 297 mm.
