In inkjet printing coalescence or puddling is an image defect that occurs when wet ink drops touch one another on the receiver surface, combining into larger drops. This causes images to appear blotchy or ‘puddled’, resulting in non-uniformity in solid fill areas. This problem typically occurs with high-speed printing devices.
